This period detached property sits on a prominent corner location with 3 roads intersecting. The house has been modified over the years but still had dark cellular rooms to the back which did not engage well with the garden. The kitchen was on the side of the house and disconnected to the living spaces. Our social clients who entertain a lot were keen on a more open plan layout that better connected to the garden.

The design started with the views as you entered the house. We introduced a central timber framed glass window box which created a framed view of the garden form the moment you entered the house. This offered a focal point with 2 pairs of wide French doors either side opening up to the rear patio. The original side kitchen is now a utility and boot room with side access and a new social shaker style kitchen complete with island sits in a large social space to the back.

Re remainder of the works include a new family room created in what was the garage as well as a new first floor ensuite and a ground floor cloak room.

The design was carefully developed to ensure the new sections matched the original character of the period styled house with brick patterns used to match the existing and white painted timbers to match existing windows. We wanted to offer a modern layout while celebrating the character of the original house design.
