This property sits in a private road with a variety of un modernised homes and modern mansions which all look the same. Our brief was to create something unique for our client which was tailored to their specific needs and tastes and one that responded to the site making the most of the views.
We were appointed after they had a previous turnkey developer propose a solution which they felt was generic and uninspirational.
We took a fresh look at the brief and advised to reduce the size of the house but make it more efficient in its layout and incorporate views into the garden to make each of the spaces feel larger. This would allow for better allocation of the budget.
We have split the property into 2 sections. The original house has been extensively remodelled internally while the front, roof and part of the rear fabric retained and work around. The garage block has been demolished and replaced to form a new wing which includes the new master suite and office. These are then linked together with a new link which includes a new feature stair.
Our clients have a lot of art pieces and care was taken to allow for walls to be included in the design, where there are a series of spaces and galleries allowing for both hung artwork and sculptures to be displayed throughout.
The new sections of the house has a ribbed timber cladding and feature extruded tiles and glass to sit next to the original materials.
Our favourite feature of this project is the mix of traditional materials such as tiles and timber in a modern context to complement the heritage of the original house and its garden setting.
