This property is a 1970’s detached property with cellular rooms and inefficient circulation, with a strong roof form, on a road with similar houses. Our clients were keen for us to fully remodel the inside of the house to create a modern home with open plan bright spaces tailored to their needs.

The house layout was radically changed with the first key move was to relocate the stair to make the circulation very efficient which in turn allowed for larger rooms. We introduced a feature stair running up all 3 floors with a large fixed rooflight over to flood the house with natural light. To the rear we introduced an extension with a newly formed social kitchen and dining engaged with the garden.

We were on a fixed budget and used a mix of quality items blended with value items with a contemporary look. We used lots of timbers, natural stone and metals as the main pallet of materials. This was then stitched together with extensive use of specialist lighting to make the most of the textures and spaces. Lighting features include illuminated skirtings and architraves in the master drawing room pod and illuminated stair treads.

The bespoke handmade kitchen features stainless steel worktops with the use of laminated timbers executed exquisitely to keep the cost down. The same timbers have been used in other joinery to ensure consistency in the look of the house.

Our favourite feature of this project is the bold lighting throughout bringing out the key materials used in the property.
