The ultimate Staycation spaces
The Corona virus has left a profound impact on all of our lives, with one change having a significant impact on our daily lives this summer and that is the restrictions imposed on us about travelling to the sun. The rise of the staycation is here for some time.
Fortunately for many of our clients their homes have been tested through the winter months of the virus but as we hit the summer holidays some of our other features make for a great place to be in without leaving your home, where you can still enjoy being in the outdoors.
This month we hilight a series of projects which have outdoor living at the heart of our projects, and no doubt they are all being used to their maximum effect during the heat wave. We have really seen a strong demand from our clients who recognise our strong track record in designing and delivering these types of spaces, and the feedback is that they love the fact that they can spend so much longer being outside either entertaining friends in summer evenings, relaxing as a family or just to have a quiet coffee outside on a crisp Autumn morning.
Hersham Road- Here we created a fully covered timber clad outdoor living area complete with an outdoor kitchen. The space leads on from the main social kitchen and dining with large sliding doors which open in the summer to create a single space. The timber clad walls and ceilings all create a warm feel around the steel structure perfect to offer framed views of the garden.
Kenwood Drive - Here we have made a bespoke outdoor living terrace which can be opened to the fresh air or closed off with openable louvres. These casettes are slotted into a Glulam structure which also has blinds to the front so can be completely closed off if it starts to rain. The space houses an outdoor kitchen for our South African clients and connects the drawing room, kitchen and dining with the indoor pool.
Eastwick Drive - Here we have a timber clad part enclosed part open outdoor living area from an American client, which opens on from the kitchen to connect with the landscaped garden and lap pool. The enclosure is fully closed towards the house with a rooflight and open towards the garden to allow for fresh air to flow but provide adequate shelter if needed. Perfect to have dinner in or escape from the pool. To the side is the outdoor kitchen area.
Hanging Stairs House - This house for a South African client has a number of interesting features, not least the bespoke sculptural stair at the heart of the house. To the rear is a screened off outdoor living area off the formal drawing room and social kitchen / dining. This comes complete with a vented firepit in the centre to create an intimate outdoor seating area which spills off the main living zones. The angles of the timber louvres have been carefully designed to offer maximum solar protection when needed but plenty of sunshine in winter or at the ends of the day.
Firlands - This Italian client is a keen pizza maker and come rain or shine bakes pizzas and bread all year around. We have created a tiber clad outdoor living area complete with rooflight and slim framed doors connecting to the kitchen / dining area. At the end we will have the outdoor kitchen complete with a pizza oven, ready to be used come rain or shine.
Atrium House - This new build mansion has 2 outdoor living zones. One side has a sunken hottub and sun bed area leading off the ktchen and has a direct access to the changing rooms. The other side is a timber louvred outdoor entertaining area with space for dinning tables and a sofa area served by an outdoor fireplace. This space leads on from the informal living area and the games room / home theatre.
Riverview House - This is also a new build house overlooking the river and greenbelt beyond. The outdoor living area is made up of a cascading form and houses a sunken hot tub, reflection pool, outdoor kitchen and dining area. Hunkered down lower is a sunken seating area around the fire pit, which was designed to ensure the views of the river and woodlands in the greenbelt are not obstructred by the seats.
Greenwalls - This house is currently on site. Our design is to create a 2 sided outdoor living area flanking the kitchen which projects into the garden. The main outdoor living area will house the dining and seating space under a solid roof complete with rooflights. The other side is a semi covered seating area complete with hanging chair. The outdoor living area is made of timber louvres and a green roof and it connects the living space with a new outdoor swimming pool, raised sun deck and living wall.
Hidden Pavilion - This large renovated mansion compirses of a series of outdoor living areas. We have introduced a timber and glass pavilion at the end of the garden which allows our client to watch friends and famiy play in their tennis courts as well as having a juice bar and yoga studo / gym. At the back of the house are 2 outdoor living zones, one for formal seating next to the drawing room which is framed by bespoke planting and the other is informal dining and relaxing which too is framed by trees and planting but connected to the kitchen, family room as well as the indoor pool.
Pitt Towers is a period coach house that we have significantly extended but to an authentic aesthetic which shows it feels very much part of the original house. The house however opens onto an outdoor living area complete with outdoor kitchen and also a very private covered seating area, which also showcases some old garden sculptures.
